We’re not seeing the same Brad Bergesen who threw the complete-game two-hitter in his last start. Or the same Bergesen who allowed four runs in his last three starts covering 23 innings.
Tonight, Bergesen has given up three runs and seven hits – including back-to-back homers by Russell Branyan and Jose Lopez in the third that tied the game.
Branyan’s ball traveled 436 feet.

Bergesen has thrown 79 pitches through four innings. The Orioles twice failed to turn double plays in the fourth that would have lessened the right-hander’s workload.
In case you forgot to check Steve Melewski’s blog, the Orioles have agreed to terms with their seventh-round pick, left-hander Matthew Bywater of Pepperdine University. That’s not the same thing as signing him, but it’s a done deal.
Update: Bergesen was gone after 5 1/3 innings. He allowed three runs and nine hits, with two walks and five strikeouts. He threw 103 pitches before Mark Hendrickson replaced him with the bases loaded and escaped the jam.
Koji Uehara recorded two huge strikeouts in the eighth, giving him four, after Casey Kotchman led off with a double and Adam Moore reached on an accidental bunt single. Uehara fanned Michael Saunders on his 12th pitch.
Seven of the Orioles’ 10 hits have come with two outs.
Tonight’s attendance: 12,375.
