It was determined by Major League Baseball that Red Sox manager Terry Francona will not be suspended or fined because Red Sox pitcher Kyle Weiland did not intentionally throw at Vladimir Guerrero during Sunday’s game. Orioles manager Buck Showalter is serving his one-game suspension tonight.
Kevin Gregg was fined $2,500. Michael Gonzalez was fined $1,500, and Jim Johnson was fined $500.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter is serving his one-game suspension tonight.
Kevin Gregg was fined $2,500. Michael Gonzalez was fined $1,500, and Jim Johnson was fined $500.
Vladimir Guerrero isn’t in the lineup because of the sore hand and wrist. Guerrero told Showalter this afternoon that he needs one more day to recover. He’ll be checked by a team physician.
Showalter is using Matt Wieters as his designated hitter to provide some rest for the All-Star catcher after a cross-country flight from Phoenix.
Infielder Cesar Izturis, who’s recovering from elbow surgery, was sore yesterday but is feeling much better today, according to Showalter. Izturis could begin an injury-rehab assignment in the Gulf Coast League next Wednesday and play games at Double-A Bowie on July 21 and 22 before being activated from the disabled list on the 23rd or 24th.
Luke Scott hasn’t picked up a bat or a weight. He could report to an affiliate over the weekend before coming off the disabled list on Tuesday.
Update: Scott told reporters that he’s receiving a cortisone injection in his right shoulder tomorrow, so it’s unlikely that he’ll be activated on Tuesday. He’ll have to remain shut down for a few more days to let the injection work, which will prevent him from going on an injury rehab assignment over the weekend.
We were told that Scott received an injection on July 4, but that apparently wasn’t the case.
Jake Arrieta is starting tomorrow night. Alfredo Simon will start Saturday, followed by Mitch Atkins on Sunday. Showalter hasn’t chosen a starter for Monday night’s game against the Red Sox.
Triple-A Norfolk’s Rhyne Hughes is going on the disabled list with an oblique injury.
Double-A Bowie pitcher Dan Klein remains shut down after being diagnosed with a tear in his right shoulder, but I’m told that he’s “progressing.” Still no set date for Klein to begin throwing.
Left-hander Zach Britton is still scheduled to start Friday and next Wednesday for the Baysox.
