Brian Matusz has a shutout through four innings. He’s allowed five hits, which means he’s scattered them.
Matusz’s six strikeouts match his total over his last three starts. He fanned Travis Hafner to open the fourth on a knee-buckling curveball, and Jhonny Peralta swung through a 92 mph fastball.
The Orioles aren’t giving him much support. The game’s only run came on Ty Wigginton’s 414-foot homer.

Down on the farm, St. Paul’s grad Steve Johnson is pitching for Double-A Bowie against Erie’s Jon Kibler, a Calvert Hall grad.
How’s that for local flavor?
Johnson has allowed two runs and four hits in four innings, with two walks and four strikeouts. Kibler has allowed three runs and four hits in four innings, with no walks and three strikeouts.
Two of the hits off Johnson, including a run-scoring single, have been bloopers.
Jon Tucker has a double and three RBIs. He also crashed into the fence to make a leaping catch and doubled the runner off first base.
Instant update: Bowie took a 4-3 lead in the fifth. Johnson is done after 90 pitches. He allowed three runs and six hits in five innings, with two walks and four strikeouts.
Leadoff hitter Matt Angle, who came off the disabled list this week after breaking his hamate bone in spring training, is 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
