Orioles reliever Koji Uehara has now been scored on in four of his last six appearances after giving up a two-run homer to Johnny Damon in the ninth last night.
He’s trying to regain the form that saw him start this season with 4 2/3 scoreless innings.
“Major leagues is all about results so when you give up runs it’s very frustrating,” Uehara said today through his interpreter, Jiwon Bang.

He’s trying to regain the form that saw him start this season with 4 2/3 scoreless innings.
“Major leagues is all about results so when you give up runs it’s very frustrating,” Uehara said today through his interpreter, Jiwon Bang.
Last year, Uehara gave up as many homers, five, as he allowed walks over 44 innings. This year, he has already allowed four walks and three homers in 11 2/3 innings. All three homers have come in Uehara’s past five innings.
“One of (the homers) wasn’t really important so I’m not really concerned,” Uehara said. “The one I gave up against Boston and the one I gave up last night is something I should be careful about.”
Koji said he was not too concerned about his walk total, either.
“I believe there are situations where you can walk someone and situations where you cannot,” he said. “I believe in those cases, it was a situation where I could give up the walk. I’m not concerned.”
As for his role on the team, last year he got a chance to close games and recorded 13 saves. He said it’s not an issue for him now that he is not getting save chances.
“It’s not my decision,” Uehara said. “All I have to do is continue to perform, that’s all I can do. Physically speaking, I actually feel better than the last two months of last year.”
