Arrieta gave up three runs in the bottom of the second inning tonight, two coming on A.J. Pierzynski’s home run. A double by Mark Teahan and a two-out single by Juan Pierre increased Chicago’s lead to 3-0.

As I mentioned earlier today, Arrieta allowed four runs and seven hits in four innings in his only other start against the White Sox in Chicago, which came on Aug. 26.

Trouble began for Arrieta tonight when he walked Adam Dunn to open the second.

The trouble finally ended when Matt Wieters threw out Pierre attempting to steal second.

Instant update: Luke Scott made a leaping catch at the fence to rob Alexei Ramirez of a home run in the bottom of the third, and he homered leading off the top of the fourth to tie the game. Scott has four homers this season.

Down on the farm, Triple-A Norfolk’s Ryan Drese is shutting out Indianapolis on four hits over five innings. Brendan Harris hit his second home run.

Double-A Bowie catcher Caleb Joseph hit a three run homer.

Mitch Atkins, on an injury rehab assignment after being sidelined in spring training with an oblique injury, has allowed six runs and six hits, with four walks and five strikeouts, in six innings against Richmond.

First baseman Tyler Townsend hit his third home run for Single-A Frederick. Robert Bundy held Myrtle Beach to one run over six innings, with no walks and seven strikeouts.

Single-A Delmarva shortstop Manny Machado is 2-for-2 with a walk and his fourth error. He’s batting .333.
