Orioles pitcher Cade Povich received a cortisone injection today in his left elbow during a visit with Dr. Keith Meister in Arlington, Texas.

The club says Povich will continue his rehabilitation, with no current return to play timeline.

Povich went on the 15-day injured list May 8 after leaving his start the previous night with forearm discomfort.

“It’s in kind of an interesting spot, where triceps, like on the lateral side of the forearm-ish,” said manager Craig Albernaz.

“It’s not on the inside. It’s on the outside, which is better than the alternative. I’m also glad he said something, too. I can only imagine for him, that feeling. He said he felt it in the second, so you’re not sure what that could be and if he could pitch through it, because every baseball player is always focused on the other side of the elbow, so when that pops up …

“He said in the third inning it really started to tighten up on him. I’m glad he said something, for sure.”

Povich has made four appearances (three starts) and registered a 5.12 ERA in 19 1/3 innings.

The Orioles have 12 players on the injured list, including reliever Colin Selby, who’s on the 60-day with right shoulder inflammation. Selby was evaluated by Dr. Chris Looze in Baltimore due to “mild shoulder symptoms,” according to the Orioles, and they’re discussing treatment options.

Health issues also reach down to the minors.

First baseman/outfielder Ike Irish, the organization’s No. 2 prospect according to MLB Pipeline and Baseball America, will miss the next few games with High-A Frederick due to a bruised right wrist. He was hit by a pitch Sunday.

The Orioles are trying tonight to avoid falling a season-worst seven games below .500.

A 16-6 loss to the Rays last night was their largest margin of defeat at Tropicana Field since losing 10-0 on Aug. 17, 2021. The 18 hits allowed were their most since Aug. 29, 2025 in San Francisco.

The offense has collected 10 or more hits in three consecutive road games for the first time since June 19-21, 2024. The Orioles haven’t done it in four straight since Sept. 2-9, 2023.

Jackson Holliday is in the lineup for the first time this season, batting seventh and playing second base.

Coby Mayo is at third base, Colton Cowser is in right field and Adley Rutschman is the designated hitter.

Taylor Ward is leading off against right-hander Griffin Jax, with Gunnar Henderson batting second.

The Orioles are 9-20 when the opponent scores first.
