Jair Jurrjens threw from 90 feet today without experiencing any discomfort in his thumb, though he didn’t attempt any breaking balls. Jurrjens didn’t make his scheduled start last night with Triple-A Norfolk.
Second baseman Brian Roberts showed up in the clubhouse today wearing a jacket and tie. He’s dressed for the team charter back to Baltimore, where he will continue his rehab and baseball activities. Roberts is hoping to be activated from the disabled list before the All-Star break.
Manager Buck Showalter said he’s received positive reports on Tides left-hander Zach Britton, who’s allowed six earned runs (eight total) in his last four starts over 25 innings, with nine walks and 21 strikeouts.
Britton’s velocity is up and his command has improved. He’s an option if the Orioles make any changes to their rotation. However, Kevin Gausman will take his next turn. The leash is longer than four major league starts.
