SARASOTA, Fla. – An MRI administered this morning confirmed that Orioles left-hander Chris Lee sustained an injury to his right oblique muscle and he’s expected to be sidelined at least four weeks.
Lee wasn’t expected to break camp with the team, but the injury totally eliminates the possibility.
The MRI on Austin Hays was more favorable. Hays has some inflammation behind his right shoulder, but he could be available to hit. The Orioles will prevent him from throwing for about three days,…
SARASOTA, Fla. – An MRI administered this morning confirmed that Orioles left-hander Chris Lee sustained an injury to his right oblique muscle and he’s expected to be sidelined at least four weeks.
Lee wasn’t expected to break camp with the team, but the injury totally eliminates the possibility.
The MRI on Austin Hays was more favorable. Hays has some inflammation behind his right shoulder, but he could be available to hit. The Orioles will prevent him from throwing for about three days, keeping him away from right field.
Outfielder Craig Gentry, out with a sore left hamstring, won’t play again before Monday’s off-day. Manager Buck Showalter said it’s being done as a precaution.
Though they’re listed on today’s lineup card, it’s more likely that Pedro Ãlvarez, Jaycob Brugman and Éngelb Vielma make their first appearances on Thursday against the Rays in Port Charlotte.
Catcher Andrew Susac has been cleared to play.
Reliever Brad Brach’s first appearance this spring is “right around the corner,” Showalter said.
Miguel Castro will work two innings in Friday morning’s B game against the Pirates on Field 4.
Rule 5 pick Nestor Cortes Jr. makes the start Thursday against the Rays in Port Charlotte. He’s opposing right-hander Jake Faria.
Dylan Bundy starts Friday against the Pirates’ Tyler Glasnow in Sarasota.
Former Orioles catcher Francisco Peña made the trip today with the Cardinals, but pitcher Bud Norris stayed back in Jupiter. The Orioles wanted to re-sign Peña to a minor league deal.
