With the passing of each game, it seems worthwhile to update the run of amazing pitching by the Orioles.
Wei-Yin Chen gave up four runs over five innings last night and it was just the second time in the last 11 games that the Orioles did not get a quality start. Still, over those 11 games, the starters’ ERA is 1.92.
In winning nine of their past 11 games, the Orioles’ pitching staff has allowed a total of 20 runs.

In winning nine of their past 11 games, the Orioles’ pitching staff has allowed a total of 20 runs.
Over the last six games, the Orioles’ bullpen has pitched 17 2/3 shutout innings, allowing just six hits with four walks and eight strikeouts.
If you go back to the previous game that was last Friday at home against Oakland, the O’s ‘pen now has a 19-inning scoreless streak since the A’s Josh Reddick came up with an RBI single off Matt Lindstrom with two outs in the top of the eighth. The run was charged to Troy Patton’s record and is the last run scored off the Orioles bullpen.
Over the last 17 games, the ‘pen ERA is just 0.52, allowing only three earned runs in that time over 51 2/3 innings. If you are not amazed by that it takes a lot to stun you.
The O’s bullpen has pitched shutout ball in 13 of those last 17 games, giving up one run each in four other games and one of those was an unearned run.
The last time the O’s bullpen gave up more than one run in a game was on April 15 when the ‘pen allowed four runs in 2 1/3 against Toronto. That was 18 games ago.
Just amazing.
