ST. LOUIS – Ramón Urías has been scratched from tonight’s lineup for an undisclosed reason. The Orioles will provide more information later.

Urías was supposed to bat sixth and play second base. Chris Owings has left a three-man bench to replace him.

Jorge López is expected to return for the Tigers series that starts Friday night in Detroit. He learned of his grandfather’s passing over the weekend but asked to keep pitching, which explains why manager Brandon Hyde used him again yesterday with a 6-1 lead in the ninth inning after the right-hander allowed two unearned runs in 1 1/3 the previous day.

“It was a tough weekend for him,” said manager Brandon Hyde. “He wanted to pitch really badly and that’s why I threw him in both those games. Feel sorry for Lopey and his family. Looking forward to seeing him back.”

López can stay on the bereavement list between three and seven days. Hyde thinks López will only miss this series but added, “you never know with those situations.”

Dillon Tate earned his fourth career save in Game 2 of Sunday’s doubleheader, and he’s a solid option to close. Hyde also will match up late in games, which might necessitate using Tate in the eighth.

Félix Bautista, Joey Krehbiel, Bryan Baker and Cionel Pérez also are in the mix. Hyde just wants to have a lead before plotting how to hold it.

Travis Lakins Sr. came off the taxi squad as the corresponding roster move for López. The Orioles also brought pitchers Denyi Reyes and Marcos Diplán and catcher Jacob Nottingham on the trip.

The starter for Thursday remains unknown and the Orioles are discussing whether to make it a bullpen game or bring up a pitcher from Triple-A Norfolk.

The minor league choices are limited. Grayson Rodriguez is scheduled to start Thursday for the Tides, but the Orioles aren’t likely to select the contract of their top pitching prospect.

“We’re going to see how today and tomorrow goes,” Hyde said. “I probably won’t name a starter until Thursday. We’ll see how we are on the mound these next two days.”
