The Orioles just turned another double play to end the third inning, this one started by third baseman Josh Bell.

Brian Roberts has bobbled a few balls hit to him since coming off the disabled list, but it’s no coincidence that the Orioles are much better at turning DPs with him on the field. How many times did they give opposing teams an extra out and get burned for it?

Update: The Orioles just ran into an out. Ty Wigginton followed Nick Markakis’ two-out double in the third inning with a single that increased the Orioles’ lead to 2-0. Luke Scott dumped a single into left-center field, but Wigginton stopped after rounding second, started up again and was cut down at third base on Gordon Beckham’s relay throw. He slammed his batting helmet to the ground after jumping to his feet.

Left fielder Juan Pierre threw to second, so Wigginton easily would have reached third if he kept running.

It hurts a little more when Carlos Quentin homers in the fourth to slice the lead in half.
