The Orioles are prepared to make another roster move, with Double-A Bowie left-hander The Orioles are prepared to make another roster move, with Double-A Bowie left-hander Pedro Viola joining the team in Oakland tomorrow.
Viola was informed of his travel plans after Bowie’s game tonight in Harrisburg.
It appears that the Orioles might be placing a reliever on the disabled list. If that’s the case, Viola would be officially recalled. He’s headed to the West Coast as insurance.
He’s basically stealing Troy Patton’s move. Viola will show up in the clubhouse, but he won’t necessarily be part of the 25-man roster.
I won’t speculate on which player would go on the DL. I don’t know at this point, and I’m not with the team.
Viola, who’s on the 40-man roster, is 3-1 with a 1.80 ERA in 17 games with the Baysox. He’s allowed 15 hits, walked seven and struck out 27 in 20 innings.
In his most recent appearance, Viola allowed a run in one inning in Tuesday’s game against Altoona.
Viola, 27, appeared in two games with the Orioles last year, allowing two runs in 1 1/3 innings.
