The Orioles have summoned left-hander Pedro Viola from Double-A Bowie, but no decision has been made whether to recall him for today’s game against the Yankees.
Viola knows the drill. He’s been through it before.
The bullpen was abused in yesterday’s doubleheader, and it didn’t help that Mark Hendrickson and Michael Gonzalez were hit by comebackers in the nightcap. Troy Patton pitched both ends. Jason Berken took a beating after replacing rookie Zach Britton.

The Orioles could make multiple roster moves before today’s game besides adding first baseman Chris Davis and pitcher Tommy Hunter. We’ll know more in a few hours.
Viola is 3-1 with a 2.10 ERA in 28 games at Bowie, with 22 hits allowed, nine walks and 29 strikeouts in 30 innings. He threw one-third of an inning on Friday.
Viola has a 9.82 ERA in 3 2/3 innings with the Orioles this year, with four runs, six hits and three home runs allowed.
I wonder if Alfredo Simon could be available today after starting Wednesday. He could treat a relief appearance today as a side session.
Update: Another Bowie left-hander, Mike Ballard, also is in New York. Ballard is 6-1 with a 2.88 ERA in 10 games, including nine starts. He’s allowed 50 hits, walked four and struck out 67 in 65 2/3 innings.
Ballard’s last start was Wednesday.
Hunter isn’t available to pitch today, so he’ll meet the team in Kansas City. That eliminates one roster move.
