It’s that time of the year in baseball when the nominations – and eventually awards – start flowing, and two more Orioles could use your help in the voting.
Brian Matusz and Adam Jones are each up for a 2010 This Year in Baseball Award.
Matusz is up for the XFactor Player of the Year for going 7-1 with a 2.18 ERA over his final 11 starts.

Matusz is the only pitcher nominated in the XFactor Player of the Year category, leaving the rest of the field to standout performances on the field and at the plate.
Meanwhile, Adam Jones is up for some slightly less glamorous recognition. Jones has been nominated for the Must See Oddity of the Year Award for “awkwardly misplaying an Adrian Gonzalez smash to center field, resulting in an RBI double” during the O’s game on June 18 in San Diego.
Other Oddity of the Year nominees include similar misplays, a drink vendor taken off guard by a foul ball, a hop into the stands to retrieve a glove lost on a catch attempt at the center field wall, and the botched pregame landing of a U.S. Army Parachute team member who got caught on the flag pole during his descent.
In their ninth year, the This Year in Baseball Awards span 18 categories from Most Dependable Player of the Year to Breakout Player of the Year, and executives, managers, and fans are even included as well.
According to an MLB.com article detailing the TYIB Awards, they are “a compilation of the traditional honors bestowed by the Baseball Writers Association of America (Rookie, Manager), specialized versions of those Awards (Hitter, Starter) and the season’s zany moments that are often just as memorable as the sterling defensive plays and big home runs (Fan Moment, Oddity).”
