The Orioles have gone back to having 13 pitchers on their roster.

This arrangement might not be temporary.

Josh Walker was appointed from Triple-A Norfolk to serve as the 27th man in Game 2 of today’s doubleheader. Walker gives the Orioles a second left-hander in the bullpen with Grant Wolfram.

Walker could return to Norfolk later tonight. However, left-hander Cade Povich is on the taxi squad for a possible relief role.

Povich made four appearances (three starts) with the Orioles and posted a 5.12 ERA in 19 1/3 innings. He went on the injured list with left elbow inflammation, and the Orioles optioned him after his reinstatement.

Povich pitched twice with Double-A Chesapeake on a rehab assignment and has appeared in three games with Norfolk. He started on Friday and allowed two runs in five innings.

The previous outing didn’t go as well. Povich allowed seven runs and six hits in 3 1/3 innings. He walked four batters.

The Orioles are off Thursday. Povich could be recalled for the weekend series against the Braves at Camden Yards if they don’t make a move with him this evening.

The roster holds 14 position players, including outfielder Johnathan Rodríguez, who’s serving as the designated hitter in Game 2. Christian Encarnacion-Strand is at third base again after singling twice and homering in a 6-3 loss in Game 1 that ran Boston’s winning streak to 15 games.

Dylan Beavers is in center field. Tyler O’Neill stays in right field and in the cleanup spot. Chadwick Tromp is catching Kyle Bradish.

Meanwhile, reliever Cameron Foster, who hasn’t pitched in two months due to a shoulder injury, begins his rehab assignment tonight with High-A Frederick.

Outfielder Jhonkensy Noel, nicknamed “Big Christmas,” was reinstated from Norfolk’s injured list and released. Noel batted .121 with a .460 OPS in 30 games. He struck out 36 times.
