Separate reports on FoxSports.com linking the Orioles to Jarrod Washburn and Chien-Ming Wang have got a few readers stirred up here, which is understandable to a degree. I didn’t sense that a lot of fans were brushing the snow off their cars and racing out to purchase Ohman and Startup jerseys – though there’s nothing wrong with updating your Wills.

Anyway, I’ve been asked about Washburn and Wang quite a bit over the last few days, mostly because they remain on the free-agent market, and the Orioles failed to sign Erik Bedard.
President of baseball operations Andy MacPhail is only interested in signing pitchers to minor league deals at this point unless something drastic happens. That would include Washburn’s price falling dramatically, as one FoxSports.com report suggests. The Orioles aren’t going to give him a second thought if that doesn’t happen.
I seriously don’t think that’s going to happen.
The Orioles still aren’t that intrigued by Washburn, from what I’ve been told. And Baltimore is way down on Washburn’s list of preferences.
As for Wang, the Orioles had little or no interest earlier this winter, as I’ve stated, and I haven’t heard of any changes in their thinking.
I’m sure Wang’s name has come up in conversation within the warehouse, but only because he’s still unsigned. Names get kicked around as the market, yes, plays out. But I haven’t received any indication that Wang suddenly is in play.
But at least it gave us something else to talk about today.
