It’s a small baseball world.
The Tides activated catcher Steve Clevenger, reliever Preston Guilmet and infielder Jimmy Paredes – acquired from the Royals yesterday for cash considerations.
Weeks went 3-for-11 in three games with the Orioles, and he’s batting .279/.394/.397 with 10 doubles, four triples, one home run and 17 RBIs in 55 games at Norfolk.
Meanwhile, Seattle’s Felix Hernandez has recorded 12 consecutive starts where he’s pitched at least seven innings and allowed two runs or fewer, going 7-1 with a 1.48 ERA, 13 walks and 94 strikeouts. Hernandez has tied the American League record set by Hall of Famer Chief Bender in 1907 and is one away from the major league record of 13 set by Tom Seaver in 1971.
The Mariners have scored the fewest runs in the majors this month with 55 in 19 games.
This series features three of the top six hits leaders in the American League in Robinson Cano (third with 125), Nick Markakis (fourth with 122) and Adam Jones (tied for fifth with 121).
Orioles starter Kevin Gausman (LSU) and Mariners catcher Mike Zunino (Florida) have faced each other in the Southeast Conference. They were All-Americans and first-team All-SEC selections in 2012.
Zunino went 3-for-6 off Gausman in two games.
