ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Remember when Bill Hall was removed for a pinch-hitter in the ninth inning last night at Triple-A Pawtucket?
I guess he needed more time to pack his bags.
Hall is in Tampa – he confirmed it on Twitter – and will be added to the 25- and 40-man rosters for tonight’s game against the Rays.
Hall is replacing Nick Markakis on the 25-man. Markakis underwent surgery this morning to remove a broken hamate bone in his right wrist.

Hall is replacing Nick Markakis on the 25-man. Markakis underwent surgery this morning to remove a broken hamate bone in his right wrist.
The Orioles could transfer second baseman Brian Roberts to the 60-day disabled list to create room on the 40-man, since his injury-rehab assignment runs through June 11.
Nothing is official. The Orioles haven’t made an announcement, but it will arrive later today.
Hall went 2-for-7 with a home run in six games with the Orioles last month before being designated for assignment on May 25 to make room for reliever Stu Pomeranz. He cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk.
Hall made one start in left field for the Orioles, and they need outfield depth with Markakis going on the DL for the first time in his major league career.
Hall is batting .221/.272/.372 with four doubles, three homers and 10 RBIs in 21 games at Norfolk.
Update: The Orioles just confirmed that hand specialist Dr. Brian Schofield removed Markakis’ hamate bone today in a routine procedure.
Markakis will stay in Sarasota to rehab. The estimated recovery period remains three-to-four weeks.
