Westburg remains out of Orioles lineup (Eflin to IL)

ARLINGTON, Texas – The Orioles haven’t announced a roster move this afternoon, which at least temporarily keeps starter Zach Eflin active while he’s dealing with lower back tightness.

Update: The Orioles just put Eflin on the IL, and Brandon Young was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk. Young is eligible because he’s replacing an injured player.

Eflin lasted one inning Saturday after the discomfort surfaced in the bullpen. He tried to pitch through it and allowed four runs.

Eflin missed a month earlier this season with a lat strain.

Left-hander Trevor Rogers is facing the Rangers again tonight after shutting them out on three hits over eight innings in his last outing at Camden Yards. He’s made three starts for the Orioles and allowed three runs in 16 2/3 innings, with three walks and 13 strikeouts.

Rogers has never pitched in Arlington.

Adolis García is 4-for-9 with a double and home run against Rogers.

The Rangers are batting .181 against Rogers in his three career starts, his lowest average against any opponent that he’s faced multiple times.

Chadwick Tromp will catch Rogers. Gary Sánchez is the designated hitter.

Jordan Westburg remains out of the lineup with a sore left index finger.

Coby Mayo is batting seventh and playing first base. Ramón Laureano moves up to second in the order. Ryan O’Hearn goes to the bench.

Laureano has recorded a hit and scored a run in five straight games, tied for the second-longest active streak in the majors, per STATS.

The Orioles are seeing the Rangers again after losing two of three games last week at Camden Yards. Their only win came against tonight’s starter, left-hander Patrick Corbin, who allowed five runs and nine hits in five innings. Jackson Holliday hit a three-run homer.

Left-handers are hitting .218/.279/.410 against Corbin this season and right-handers are hitting .272/.325/.437.

Corbin has a 3.66 ERA in six home starts and a 4.67 ERA in eight road games.

Emmanuel Rivera is 4-for-5 with two doubles against Corbin.

Corbin is allowing a .130 batting average in the first inning this season, the lowest in the American League in a minimum 10 starts. Last season, teams posted a .285 average against him in the first.

Texas is batting .204 in the seventh inning or later, lowest in the majors. The 83 runs scored also are the fewest.

The Rangers are 2 ½ games behind for the last Wild Card. They’ve gone 24-18 at home and 17-25 on the road.

Texas has lost seven of its last 12.

The Rangers lead the majors with a 3.23 ERA but are in fourth place with a 41-43 record. Also per STATS, there have been only four instances in the Wild Card era (since 1995) that a team’s registered the lowest ERA and missed the playoffs – most recently the 2012 Rays.

The Orioles are 415-286 (.592) against the Rangers all-time, their highest win percentage against any active major league team, per STATS. It’s the 10th-highest win percentage by any team against an opponent since 1954 in a minimum 100 games.

The Orioles are 137-111 against the Rangers in Texas.

Outfielder Enrique Bradfield Jr. and pitcher Keagan Gillies were chosen to the All-Star Futures Game, to be played on July 12 in Atlanta.

The Orioles made Bradfield the 17th-overall selection in 2023 out of Vanderbilt. He’s batting .240/.378/.356 with 21 walks, 21 strikeouts and 13 stolen bases in 15 attempts over 33 games with Double-A Chesapeake. He’s been slowed by hamstring injuries.

MLB Pipeline ranks Bradfield, 23, as the organization’s No.2  prospect behind catcher Samuel Basallo.

Gillies, a 15th-round pick in 2021 out of Tulane, has posted a 1.15 ERA and 0.574 WHIP with eight saves in 26 relief appearances with the Baysox. He’s walked four batters and struck out 34, and he’s surrendered only two home runs in 31 1/3 innings.

Gillies, 27, is the first pitcher to represent the Orioles in the Futures Game since reliever Marcos Diplán in 2021.
