Pitching coach Rick Kranitz wants Uehara to come out of the bullpen rather than start the game. Uehara has worked the first inning in two games with Double-A Bowie, allowing one hit and walking a batter.

Uehara probably will make two appearances at Norfolk, the second coming on Monday, before the Orioles decide whether to activate him. Manager Dave Trembley anticipates limiting Uehara to one-inning stints once the right-hander finally joins the bullpen.

“We’d like to have him pitch against a little better competition on Saturday and see where he’s at,” Trembley said.

“He’s ready to go. He’d like to be here now, but Kranny talked to him after his outing today and we’re going to get him to pitch at least one more time at Triple-A.”
