In the three games in this series, Wieters is 5 for 10 with two homers and 9 RBI. Also tonight he threw out Carl Crawford twice on stolen base attempts.
The O’s were two outs from a 2-1 win when Ben Zobrist homered to center off Jim Johnson in the ninth. He hit a 3-2 pitch out for his 24th homer and a 2-2 tie.
That denied rookie right hander Chris Tillman his 3rd Major League win after he pitched 6 2/3 solid innings.
Tillman gave up just five hits and one run. For the first time in 28 starts this year between Triple-A and the Majors, Tillman did not strike out a batter.
Tillman got off to a great start, retiring the first ten batters. He took a shutout to the 6th but Gregg Zaun led off with a homer to right.
Melvin Mora led off the 2nd with a double and later scored on a Wieters sac fly for a 1-0 lead. The O’s made it 2-0 in the 4th. Brian Roberts reached on an error and scored on a Scott RBI double.
Andy Sonnanstine, who entered with a road ERA of 9.06, pitched well without a decision, allowing just one earned run (two runs overall) in 5 2/3 innings.
