He hit number seven in the bottom of the fifth tonight vs. Boston, a 368-foot shot to left center on a 2-0 pitch.

Wigginton began tonight third in the AL in at bats per homer this season.

1st – Paul Konerko, CWS, 1 every 7.09 at bats
2nd – Nelson Cruz, Tex, 1 every 8.86 at bats
3rd – Ty Wigginton, O’s, 1 every 10.83 at bats

With his homer tonight, Wigginton now has seven homers on the year in 66 at bats. His ratio got better to 1 every 9.4 at bats. In 2009, he hit 11 homers over 410 at bats for 1 every 37.3 at bats.

Meanwhile, the O’s rocked Dice-K for six runs in the fifth and a 7-4 lead. Adam Jones RBI infield hit, a dribbler toward third, kept that frame alive for Nick Markakis to follow with an RBI hit and Matt Wieters to unload a three-run blast to left.

It’s his second homer of the year and first since Opening Day at Tampa. Wieters had just one extra-base hit over the last eight games and just three all year before he unloaded off Matsuzaka, who left the game one batter later after Miguel Tejada’s double.

Tim Wakefield then struck out Luke Scott to end the frame. The six-run fifth is the O’s biggest inning of the year.

Wiggy update: On the first pitch in the last of the 6th, Wigginton homered to left off Wakefield for an 8-4 lead. It’s his 8th of the year, his second multi-homer game of the year and 11th of his career. He is now averaging 1 homer every 8.4 at bats.
