NASHVILLE – Before we get to the baseball updates, a personal note: I only got lost in the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center about seven times today. New record!
Wandering from place to place around the hotel today, I was able to be behind the scenes for some very cool interviews and baseball moments.
First of all, manager Buck Showalter joined MLB Network’s “Hot Stove” to chat about a variety of topics, including the horse named after him by Peter Angelos.

That picture is something.
MASNsports.com’s Roch Kubatko learned that the Orioles were meeting with agent Scott Boras today, which led to speculation about not only Chris Davis, but also Pedro Alvarez.
Dan Duquette discussed this and other topics in his daily one-on-one with MASNsports.com that I shot today.
Today, we also had the chance to talk to Orioles vice president of baseball operations Brady Anderson about the Winter Meetings and also a very unique charity auction he’s a part of for Stand Up to Cancer (SU2C).
The former Oriole All-Star is giving two fans the opportunity to work out with him at Ed Smith Stadium during spring training. After the workout, the fans will learn about nutrition and have lunch – a healthy lunch, of course – with Anderson. (Side note: I had pizza for lunch and a burger yesterday. …)
I’m not exactly sure what the workout will entail – Anderson ensured it would be a full, comprehensive workout – but I’m sure it will look just a little different than my gym sessions. Lifting heavy things is hard, OK?!
The benefits from the auction go toward SU2C, Do It For Durrett, a charity honoring the late Rangers beat writer Richard Durrett, and the YouCaring page set up for Juan C. Rodriguez, a South Florida Sun-Sentinel baseball reporter battling brain cancer. SU2C is an organization that accelerates innovative cancer research, which will get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives. Check out the auction page and place your bid here, and hear Anderson talk about the auction item below.
All right, time to go get lost walking around in the hotel once again. Hey – at least I’m getting some sort of a workout there, right? Watch out, Brady!
