One aspect you can certainly point to was Kevin Gausman’s continued struggles on the mound in 2017. His start Sunday was disappointing, particularly after being spotted a five-run cushion. Some fans are claiming Gausman doesn’t have the fire. Is that true? We’ll discuss.

If you’re looking on the plus side, Orioles catchers have been raking. Entering Sunday, the Birds catchers boasted the top collective average, hitting .318, thanks to contributions from Welington Castillo, Caleb Joseph and Francisco Peña. There’s a lot of power in this lineup, but the catcher position is often overlooked. What could this mean for the O’s?
Finally, a bit of sad news to pass on, as former umpire Steve Palermo passed away at 67. If you aren’t aware of Palermo, his story is one of the most fascinating, highlighted by an act of heroism that cost him his time as an umpire. Steve and I look back on Palermo and what umpires have meant to baseball.
