SARASOTA, Fla. -
Mark Reynolds has made two sensational plays at third base today, charging one ball and making a diving stop to his left on a sharp grounder.
Other highlights include
Brian Matusz's second inning, when he retired
Adam Jones on a soft liner to first base and
Matt Wieters on a fly ball to right, and struck out Reynolds.
Pedro Strop disposed of his three batters so quickly, he was allowed to face a fourth. He retired
Wilson Betemit on a fly ball to center, Jones on a bouncer to the mound, Wieters on a fly ball to let and Reynolds on a slow roller toward third. Strop hustled over to field the ball and made an off-balance throw to first that was on the money.
Jason Hammel retired the side in order on 14 pitches in the top of the first inning, striking out
Ryan Adams and
Nick Johnson.
Jake Arrieta struck out Betemit looking to end a perfect bottom of the first.
Matt Lindstrom gave up three straight hits in the second after striking out
Taylor Teagarden.
Joe Mahoney doubled and scored on
Jai Miller's single. Rule 5 pick
Ryan Flaherty followed with a single before
Josh Bell grounded into a double play.
Miller has two hits.
John Hester threw him out trying to steal second base in the fifth inning.
LJ Hoes singled off
Alfredo Simon to lead off the top of the third, but right fielder
Endy Chavez threw him out at second.
Robert Andino tied the game in the bottom of the third with an RBI grounder off
Dana Eveland, who allowed a leadoff single to
Chris Davis and double to
Nolan Reimold.
