Kremer replaces Flaherty as tonight's starter (Baumann optioned)

The Orioles have changed starters tonight, with Jack Flaherty scratched from his assignment.

Dean Kremer is starting against the Blue Jays, and Thursday is now listed as TBA.

A couple breaks in the schedule and a six-man rotation put Kremer on six days’ rest following his outing in San Diego.

No explanation was provided for the switch. Manager Brandon Hyde will address it later today in his media session.

Flaherty was supposed to make his fourth start with the Orioles. He’s allowed 10 runs over eight innings since his one-run debut in Toronto.

Kyle Gibson could start Thursday if Flaherty is unavailable. Gibson pitched Friday night in Oakland and is lined up to open the weekend series against the Rockies.

Flaherty surrendered only two runs but walked nine batters in two career starts against the Blue Jays over 11 innings. The current group is 7-for-59 (.119) against him.

Kremer allowed three runs in six innings against the Padres last Wednesday. He’s posted a 4.93 ERA and 1.577 WHIP in nine career games against Toronto.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is 7-for-22 with a double and four home runs against Kremer.

Ryan Mountcastle has reached base in 27 consecutive games, the longest Orioles streak since Nick Markakis (38) in 2009.

The Orioles are 8-3 against Toronto this season. They lead the second-place Rays by two games.

Former Orioles pitcher Kevin Gausman, who starts tonight for the Jays, is tied for most strikeouts in the American League with 187 in 144 1/3 innings. He’s posted a 3.24 ERA and 1.164 WHIP in his 24 starts.

Gausman has faced the Orioles twice this summer and allowed five runs in 12 1/3 innings.

Adam Frazier is 16-for-41 (.390) lifetime against Gausman.

The Jays are 18-7 over their last 25 road games.

Notes: The Orioles optioned reliever Mike Baumann to Triple-A Norfolk and reinstated Austin Voth from the 60-day injured list. Keegan Akin was transferred to the 60-day injured list to create room on the 40-man roster.

Baumann allowed three runs last night in the 10th inning and absorbed his first loss in 10 decisions. He has a 3.82 ERA in 56 games, tied with Yennier Cano for most appearances on the team.

Voth hasn't pitched since June 13 due to right elbow soreness that cropped up in spring training. He's posted a 4.94 ERA and 1.581 WHIP in 23 games.
