In Lester’s first 17 career starts against the Orioles, he was 14-0 with a 2.33 ERA in 108 1/3 innings, and the Red Sox won 16 of those games. In his last three starts, he’s 0-0 with a 3.50 ERA in 18 innings and the Orioles have won all three games.
The Orioles have won games in 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17 and 18 innings. According to Elias, it’s the first time in major league history that a team has won games in eight different extra innings.
The Orioles are 12-4 in games that follow extra-inning games, including 7-1 on the road.
The Orioles have won eight of their 10 road series against American League East opponents – three in New York, two each in Boston and Toronto, and one in Tampa Bay.
Still no starter listed for Saturday afternoon. Left-hander Zach Britton is a prime candidate. We should know later today.
The Orioles have used 50 different players this season, six fewer than the Red Sox. LJ Hoes and Dylan Bundy can push the total to 52.
