masn-baseballs-orioles.jpgAndy Pettitte is facing the Orioles tonight.

Hold on, this might be an old notebook.

Nope, it’s the one I’ve used this summer. Pettitte is starting Game 2 of the American League Division Series.

Does this mean Roger Clemens goes in Game 3?

The Orioles haven’t faced Pettitte since he decided to make a comeback this season. The only player who’s had an at-bat against him is Omar Quintanilla, while he was playing for the Mets, but he’s not on the Division Series roster.

Pettitte is 27-6 with a 3.52 ERA in 42 games against the Orioles, including 40 starts. He’s 16-4 with a 4.11 ERA at Camden Yards.

Manager Buck Showalter will likely use his right-handed lineup again tonight, which would mean more bench time for veteran Jim Thome, who’s 10-for-38 with two homers against Pettitte, according to baseball-reference.com.

Lew Ford, who served as the designated hitter last night against CC Sabathia, has never faced Pettitte.

Endy Chavez is 3-for-5 with a home run. Small sample size. And he bats from the left side.

So does Chris Davis, but he figures to remain in right field. He’s 2-for-7 with two RBIs. Also a small sample size.

Adam Jones is 6-for-17 with a triple. J.J. Hardy is 1-for-15 with a triple. Mark Reynolds is 2-for-6 with two doubles. Matt Wieters is 2-for-10.

Wieters ended the regular season in a 3-for-21 slump. He went 0-for-4 last night.

Instant update: Thome is the designated hitter tonight. I’ll post the lineup in my next entry.
