NOTE: Yankees manager Joe Girardi told reporters that Phil Hughes will start Game 4 on Thursday whether they win or lose tonight.
Hughes said his slider was an effective pitch in his last start against the Orioles and he intends to keep the same strategy Thursday night.
Girardi said he kept Rodriguez in the third slot tonight because “I trust my guys. I’m with them every day, and it’s important that they trust me.”
Rodriguez is 1-for-9 with five strikeouts in the Division Series.
