BRADENTON, Fla. – We have a tornado watch in Bradenton, rain is falling and the tarp is on the field at McKechnie Stadium.
I can never remember which is worse, a watch or a warning. I posed the question on Twitter, and the best explanation came from @highaoa:
“Watch” = CC Sabathia is pitching versus your team later today. “Warning” = he’s in the 8th inning of a perfect game.
Thanks for putting it in terms I can understand.

No word on whether the game will be played, though people I’ve talked to sound optimistic. And no, the two teams wouldn’t make it up at a later date if it’s postponed.
The Orioles have brought pitchers Zach Petersime, Zech Zinicola, Rob Delaney and Chris Petrini, and infielders Buck Britton and Zelous Wheeler from minor league camp.
Pitchers Chris Tillman, Dylan Bundy, Steve Johnson, Daniel Schlereth, T.J. McFarland and Todd Redmond; catchers Taylor Teagarden, Chris Robinson and Jose Gil; infielders Ryan Flaherty, Alexi Casilla, Wilson Betemit, Danny Valencia, Travis Ishikawa, Yamaico Navarro and Niuman Romero; and outfielders Russ Canzler, Trayvon Robinson, Steve Pearce, Lew Ford, Chris Dickerson, Xavier Avery, LJ Hoes and Jason Pridie also are here.
Pearce is 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs in his only appearance in an exhibition game. Navarro is 2-for-2 with a double and RBI. Robinson is 3-for-6 with a double, home run and two RBIs. Valencia is 2-for-3 with a double.
All four players are vying for a bench spot on the team. Pearce may hold an advantage because he can play first base and the outfield. He’s also a right-handed bat that could platoon with Betemit at DH. But Robinson looks like a man on a mission. Should be interesting.
Jason Hammel, Wei-Yin Chen, Miguel Gonzalez, Jim Johnson and Darren O’Day had to move their simulated game indoors because of the high winds in Sarasota.
Note: Sirius XM Radio’s Jim Duquette and Mike Ferrin will host their daily talk show from Ed Smith Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
“Power Alley” airs live from 2-6 p.m. on MLB Network Radio (channel 89 on XM and channel 209 on Sirius Premier).
