NEW YORK – Well, that was an interesting trip.
It included an unscheduled stop because of a electrical wire on the track that eventually forced our train to back up – from Connecticut to about block from my Boston hotel – and a long wait in the cab line while rain fell and the temperature plummeted.
Folks, it’s cold and wet here. Not exactly baseball weather.

Folks, it’s cold and wet here. Not exactly baseball weather.
It’s hard to imagine a game being played tonight, but the Yankees will wait as long as it takes after two straight postponements. And hey, there’s always a window, though the carpet will be drenched if it’s left open.
CC Sabathia is 16-4 with a 3.12 ERA in 25 career starts against the Orioles, but he doesn’t own everyone on the team.
Alexi Casilla is 12-for-21 (.571) against Sabathia, and you will most definitely find his name in tonight’s lineup. J.J. Hardy is 6-for-14 (.429) with two doubles, a homer and four RBIs. Adam Jones is 14-for-41 (.341) with two doubles, a triple, three homers and 10 RBIs. Nolan Reimold is 8-for-24 (.333) with two doubles and a homer.
Matt Wieters is 5-for-24 (.208) with a double and homer.
Think Nick Markakis is looking forward to this game? His 2012 season ended because of a Sabathia fastball that shattered his left thumb.
Nah, probably long forgotten.
Markakis is a career .245 hitter with three doubles and a home run in 53 at-bats against Sabathia.
He’ll also be in tonight’s lineup, but only if the weather cooperates. He could bat leadoff if Reimold is in left field and Nate McLouth is on the bench, but would manager Buck Showalter risk playing Reimold on a wet field after the hamstring issue?
Maybe Casilla bats leadoff tonight?
Maybe we’ll actually have a game.
