PITTSBURGH – The Orioles are dealing with another injury.

Reliever Yaramil Hiraldo was placed on the 15-day IL this morning with right shoulder inflammation. The move is retroactive to Thursday.

Cade Povich was recalled after the Orioles put him on the medical taxi squad yesterday.

Hiraldo was busy early with three appearances in the first five games. He surrendered home runs in his last two outings and posted a 21.60 ERA and 4.200 WHIP with four runs, three hits, four walks and two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings.

All of the damage came in his last two appearances. He struck out the only batter he faced on March 28, and he did it on three pitches – all of them sliders.

The Orioles put Hiraldo on their Opening Day roster after he allowed three runs and struck out seven in seven exhibition innings.

Povich made 20 starts and two relief appearances last season and registered a 5.21 ERA and 1.496 WHIP in 112 1/3 innings. He struck out 118.

Povich has made one start with Triple-A Norfolk and allowed five runs and six hits with eight strikeouts in five innings. The Orioles need a fifth starter by Tuesday and could insert Povich into their rotation. He also is a candidate to start Monday, with Trevor Rogers bumped to Tuesday.

The Orioles avoided a sweep against the Rangers to close out their first homestand.

Can they do it again today against the Pirates?

Chris Bassitt makes his second Orioles start after allowing four runs and six hits in 4 1/3 innings against Texas.

The Orioles are hitting .263 against off-speed pitches this season, the third highest in the majors, according to STATS. They ranked 27th last season with a .220 average.

Pirates right-hander Braxton Ashcraft faced the Reds in Cincinnati and allowed two runs and four hits in six innings. He’s made nine starts among his 27 major league appearances.

Ashcraft made a relief appearance against the Orioles last September in Baltimore and allowed one run and two hits in three innings. Jeremiah Jackson homered in the sixth.

Last night marked the seventh consecutive one-run game between these teams to set the major league interleague record. It’s also the longest streak for the Orioles against any opponent.
