The Orioles are selecting the contract of Triple-A Norfolk right-hander Cameron Weston and optioning last night’s starter, Trey Gibson, to get their bullpen back to eight relievers.

Weston, who’s waiting to make his major league debut, has a 6.26 ERA and 1.683 WHIP in 11 games (seven starts). He’s walked 19 and struck out 40 batters in 27 1/3 innings.

Manager Craig Albernaz will provide an update on Yennier Cano later today during his media session. Cano exited last night’s game in the eighth inning with tightness in his right hamstring.

Albert Suárez cleared outright waivers and elected free agency for the second time rather than accept an outright assignment to Norfolk.

Suárez signed a new minor league contract the first time and could do it again. On another occasion, he accepted the assignment and waited for a call.

The Orioles designated Suárez for assignment a third time after his four scoreless innings Sunday in order to keep left-hander Grant Wolfram. They reinstated Wolfram from the injured list, used him as the 27th man in the doubleheader and placed him on the active roster.

The Orioles have won five of their last six games and can move three under .500 for the first time since May 6. They’ve won three straight home series for the first time since May-June 2024.

The bottom third of the order has produced a .877 OPS since May 22, third highest in the majors, per STATS.

Chris Bassitt spent the last three seasons with the Blue Jays. He’s made 10 appearances (eight starts) this season and posted a 5.51 ERA and 1.669 WHIP in 47 1/3 innings. He’s surrendered only four home runs.

Bassitt has allowed nine runs in 19 innings over three career starts against Toronto.

George Springer is 8-for-20 with a double and two home runs against Bassitt, and Myles Straw is 5-for-13.

Orioles pitchers have a 3.73 ERA at home and a 5.86 ERA on the road, the largest difference in the majors, per STATS. It also would be the largest difference in club history.

The Orioles have stolen 13 bases in 16 games since May 10 after swiping 18 in their first 40.

The Blue Jays haven’t played like the defending American League champions, but they’ve won six of their last eight games and eight of 12. They’re 27-29 and hold a one-game lead over the Orioles for third place.

Toronto is 27-29 overall and 10-16 on the road.

Left-hander Patrick Corbin has made nine starts and posted a 3.86 ERA and 1.398 WHIP with only four home runs surrendered in 44 1/3 innings.

Left-handers are hitting .306/.333/.361 against Corbin this season, and right-handers are hitting .286/.353/.444.

Corbin is 1-6 with a 5.46 ERA and 1.439 WHIP in 11 career games (10 starts) against the Orioles. He’s 0-5 with a 7.27 ERA and 1.654 WHIP in six games (five starts) at Camden Yards.

Pete Alonso is 19-for-52 (.365) with three doubles, five home runs and 10 walks against Corbin. Taylor Ward is 6-for-17 with a double and home run. Jackson Holliday is 3-for-6 with a double and homer.

The Orioles are 5-11 against left-handed starters.

The Blue Jays rotation has a 3.83 ERA that ranks ninth in the majors.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has a career .366 (71-for-194) average at Camden Yards, the highest all-time in a minimum 200 plate appearances, per STATS. Robinson Cano is next at .356.

The Orioles have won or earned a split in their last six home series against Toronto. Overall, they’ve lost four straight to the Blue Jays, the most since a seven-game skid from Sept. 11, 2021-June 13, 2022.

*Norfolk starter Levi Wells underwent core muscle surgery today with Dr. Williams Meyers in Philadelphia.

MLB Pipeline ranks Wells as the No. 13 prospect in the system. He had a 4.50 ERA in eight starts with Triple-A Norfolk.

Norfolk almost produced a combined no-hitter in unique fashion. Yaqui Rivera worked the first three innings last night, walking a batter and striking out four before rain halted play. Nestor German, the No. 10 prospect in the system, tossed 5 1/3 hitless this afternoon before Raynel Delgado singled into right field with one out in the ninth. German walked two and struck out five.

Heston Kjerstad started in right field and singled twice. Creed Willems hit his 10th homer, a three-run shot in the fourth, but left the game in the ninth with apparent leg cramping.

Durham ranks last in the International League in batting average.

Catcher Sam Huff hit a two-run homer in the first inning of Game 2 after Tommy Pham drew a leadoff walk. Pham and Payton Eeles had RBI singles in the third and Johnathan Rodríguez had an RBI double.

Cameron Foster was removed from Game 2 with right shoulder discomfort.

I’m told that Orioles president of baseball operations Mike Elias is at Harbor Park today.

Single-A Delmarva outfielder Stiven Martinez hit his sixth home run to go with two singles and four RBIs.
