The Orioles can run their winning streak to three games tonight after opening their series in Cincinnati with a 3-0 victory.
They’ve moved to seven games below .500 and four back in the Wild Card race after getting five scoreless innings last night from Trevor Rogers, two from Rico Garcia and one each from Yennier Cano and Tyler Wells, who earned his first save since Sept. 28, 2023.
Samuel Basallo hit a two-run homer, his 13th this season, and he’s catching tonight. Adley Rutschman is the designated hitter.
Rutschman has hit safely in six of seven career games at Great American Ball Park, slashing .345/.387/.552 (10-for-29).
Colton Cowser is in center field, Leody Taveras is in right, and Blaze Alexander is the third baseman.
Pete Alonso is one RBI shy of becoming the 24th player (31st occurrence) in club history to drive in 60 runs before the All-Star break. Chris Davis holds the team record pre-break with 93 RBIs in 2013.
Brandon Young makes his 14th start. He posted a 2.86 ERA in five May appearances and a 2.76 ERA in five June appearances.
Over his last seven starts since May 24, Young has gone 3-1 with a 2.32 ERA.
Young faced the Reds last summer in his major league debut at Camden Yards and allowed three runs and seven hits in four innings.
Orioles pitching has held opponents to four hits in back-to-back games for the first time since Sept. 28-29, 2023. It hasn’t happened in three straight since Sept. 21-23, 2022.
The Orioles have drawn at least one walk in 80 straight games since April 6, the longest active streak in the majors ahead of the Athletics (76).
Hunter Greene is reinstated from the injured list to make his 2026 debut. He had his elbow scoped in March to remove bone chips.
Greene has posted ERAs of 2.75 and 2.76 the past two seasons. He’s faced the Orioles twice in his career and allowed five runs and 11 hits in 8 2/3 innings.
Gunnar Henderson is 4-for-4 with a double and home run against Greene. Alonso is 2-for-11 with two home runs.
