masn-baseballs-orioles.jpgIf ever there were a game where the Orioles could get behind by seven runs and still have hope, this might be it tonight. That is, if Jake Arrieta can start putting up some zeroes after giving up seven runs in the first two innings.

It would be hard to imagine many pitchers coming into a start against the Orioles struggling as much as Phillies right-hander Joe Blanton.

On the year, he is 4-6 with a 5.27 ERA, but over his past four starts he is 0-3 with an ERA of 10.98. Before that, he was 4-2…If ever there were a game where the Orioles could get behind by seven runs and still have hope, this might be it tonight. But in those last four outings, he has allowed seven runs in 4 1/3 against Boston, seven in 4 1/3 against St. Louis, six in five innings against the Mets and five in six innings against Miami.

Down 7-0, the Orioles got to him for three in the second tonight to pull within 7-3 on a Chris Davis RBI single and a Robert Andino two-run double. Andino had just one RBI over his last 15 games until plating two in that at-bat.

Blanton is 1-2 with a 5.09 ERA in six career starts against the Orioles. The last time he faced them before tonight was with Oakland in May 2008.

Don’t imagine the scoring is over in this one tonight, even though the teams have combined for 10 runs over two innings as Philly leads 7-3 in the third at the Yard.

Bundy tonight: Dylan Bundy pitched five innings for Frederick in Game 1 of a doubleheader tonight at Lynchburg. He allowed four hits and two runs with three walks and five strikeouts. He gave up a run on a pair of doubles in the second inning and allowed a solo homer, his second this year in the Carolina League, in the last of the third.

He left with a 5-2 lead and could get the win. He now has an ERA of 3.00 through three starts with the Keys.
