While on his way to being named the Most Valuable Oriole during his first season in Baltimore, Pete Alonso has also made a big impact off the field this year.

Through The Alonso Foundation and its partnership with the TowerCares Foundation, Alonso and Tower Federal Credit Union earlier this year launched the Homers for Heroes initiative to turn every home run hit by the Orioles first baseman into meaningful support for Maryland veterans and military families.

The TowerCares Foundation donates $2,500 (a tribute to the slugger’s No. 25) to The Alonso Foundation for every Alonso longball, dating back to the initiative’s June 8 launch and continuing through the end of the 2026 season. The Alonso Foundation directs those contributions to veteran-serving organizations across Maryland.

The initiative has already made an enormous impact, thanks to Alonso’s tear at the plate during the second half of the season. The Polar Bear has hit 23 home runs since June 8, generating $57,500 in support for Maryland veterans and their families. Tower and its TowerCares Foundation even counted Alonso’s controversial shot over the foul pole on Aug. 19 that would have been a go-head homer against the Yankees, but was officially ruled foul after review. That means another $2,500 to The Alonso Foundation for Maryland veterans.

This partnership brings together two organizations with deep and longstanding commitments to

those who serve. The Alonso Foundation, led by Pete and Haley Alonso, has made veteran support a cornerstone of its charitable work and has continued that work since arriving in Baltimore. The foundation has helped service members, veterans and military families through programs and opportunities that improve their quality of life since its founding in 2020.

Likewise, Tower and its TowerCares Foundation have spent decades supporting active-duty military members, veterans and their families through community initiatives, including more than $4 million in charitable donations and the Baltimore Orioles Military Cap program.
