For Brad Bergesen the results have been different and the numbers jump out at you.
In three starts before he was optioned to Norfolk his ERA was 12.19. In three starts since returning, his ERA is 2.33.
Give Bergy credit for putting the time in to find his sinker and maybe even regain some confidence.
But how big a role did Norfolk pitching coach Mike Griffin play?
He talked with Bergy and watched him throw some bullpen sessions while he was with the Tides.

But how big a role did Norfolk pitching coach Mike Griffin play?
He talked with Bergy and watched him throw some bullpen sessions while he was with the Tides.
Here’s manager Dave Trembley talking about Griffin’s part in Bergesen’s resurgence.
“I’m not sure. I know that when Bergesen went down there Griff had a heart-to-heart talk with Bergy like we all have had. Griff has a way of telling guys the truth in a way that’s not so offensive that he buries guys. But he has their trust.
“Guys that can relate to these players when they get sent down and make them feel comfortable, is important.
“One of the first things Bergesen told me when he came back is ‘I had a long talk with Griff and got a lot of things off my chest. He told me the truth about some areas.’
“Bergesen just looks like a different person. The weight of the world is off. I just think the kid was trying to catch up from an unfortunate situation in the off-season. He was pushing himself and probably was not quite 100 percent like a lot of these guys.”
Bergesen is 3-0, 2.33 in three starts since his brief time back at Triple-A. He has given up just one earned run in 14 1/3 innings over his last two starts.
