The Orioles tried to scout him in Puerto Rico earlier this winter, but he wasn’t ready to play.

The Orioles tried to scout him in Puerto Rico earlier this winter, but he wasn’t ready to play.

Delgado has been serving as the designated hitter, but the Orioles consider him an option at first base. They also have interest in Hank Blalock, Adam LaRoche, Russell Branyan and Chad Tracy, but only want to offer a one-year deal for any corner infielder. LaRoche reportedly turned down a two-year, $17 million offer from the Giants.

It’s also possible that the Orioles stay in-house to fill the vacancy at first or third, depending where Garrett Atkins plays. Michael Aubrey and Brandon Snyder are possibilities at first, Ty Wigginton and Scott Moore at third.

Miguel Tejada remains a long shot and likely will sign elsewhere, but he’s ahead of Dan Uggla on the Orioles’ list of third basemen. Uggla doesn’t want to play third and would have to be acquired in a trade. At least Tejada is willing to move over to a new position.
