Cobb isn’t allowed to use a major league baseball since he isn’t on an injury rehab assignment, though the Orioles tried to obtain permission. The minor league ball is different, including higher stitches that can place a greater strain on the elbow.

Not what Cobb or the Orioles want for a pitcher who had Tommy John surgery.

One solution is for Cobb to appear in a simulated game while on Bowie’s roster. He’s scheduled to throw a bullpen session Monday in Sarasota before his next appearance at extended spring training.

Mark Trumbo will hit on the field this afternoon, fly to Sarasota after Sunday’s game and take batting practice the following day. He’s slated to play in an extended spring game on April 6.

Chris Tillman starts Monday in Houston, followed by Mike Wright Jr. on Tuesday and Dylan Bundy on Wednesday. Bundy gets an extra day of rest following his seven scoreless innings in the opener.

Chance Sisco will be behind the plate on Sunday, as manager Buck Showalter tries to get everyone in the lineup before the road trip.
