BOSTON – Orioles reliever Darren O’Day threw his simulated game this afternoon and will do the same on Friday at Camden Yards.
Manager Buck Showalter is hoping that O’Day can come off the disabled list on Sunday or Monday.
The next simulated game may be a shorter version of today’s, with O’Day mimicking an actual appearance out of the bullpen.
O’Day is on the disabled list retroactive to Aug. 12 with a strained right rotator cuff.

BOSTON – Orioles reliever Darren O’Day threw his simulated game this afternoon and will do the same on Friday at Camden Yards.

O’Day is on the disabled list retroactive to Aug. 12 with a strained right rotator cuff.

Steve Pearce isn’t available to play tonight and is scheduled to have his right elbow examined in New York. Pearce will visit Dr. David Altchek, the medical director for the Mets. The Orioles didn’t provide the date.
Pearce felt a twinge in his elbow/forearm area last night while making a throw to second base. It’s similar to his previous condition, except it’s also bothering him on certain swings.
“A little sore, just trying to put the fire out, so that’s where we are right now,” Pearce said.
There’s definite concern coming from the Orioles, who are hoping that Pearce is only going to be out a few days and not for the rest of the season.
Pearce said the discomfort is “similar” to what he felt after the Orioles acquired him from the Rays.
“It’s just that when it flares up, it flares up,” he said. “You’ve just got to let it die down. That’s where we are right now.”
Could rest be the solution?
“I hope so,” he said. “That’s what I’ve been trying to do. When I’m able to use it, it’s good to go. But you know, just a missed throw or a hard check-swing just flares it back up. I constantly have to stay careful.”
Pitcher Odrisamer Despaigne, designated for assignment on Sept. 5, is now on waivers.
The delay indicates that the Orioles attempted to find a trade partner.
