masn-baseballs-orioles.jpgDUNEDIN, Fla. – The Orioles made two roster moves before today’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Orioles have optioned right-hander Dylan Bundy to Double-A Bowie and right-hander Todd Redmond to Triple-A Norfolk.

In four spring training appearances, Bundy went 1-1 with a 1.13 ERA. Over eight innings, he has allowed six hits, two runs (one earned) with six walks and five strikeouts. Bundy was not expected to make the opening day roster and today’s move makes that official.

In four spring training appearances, Bundy went 1-1 with a 1.13 ERA. Over eight innings, he has allowed six hits, two runs (one earned) with six walks and five strikeouts. Bundy was not expected to make the opening day roster and today’s move makes that official.

Bundy’s last start was Thursday in Sarasota against Tampa Bay and he pitched three innings, allowing two hits and one run to take the loss against the Rays. Bundy’s velocity was down a bit in his outing on March 11 against Pittsburgh, but was back up to the 93-94 mph range in his outing against Tampa Bay and he hit 97 with at least one pitch.

Bundy will now likely build up his innings and pitch count in minor league games leading up to opening day. Last season, the club’s top pick in the 2011 draft went went 9-3 with a 2.08 ERA in 23 starts at three minor league levels and then pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings in two major league relief appearances in September with the Orioles.

Bundy pitched a total of 111 1/3 innings last season, counting a playoff start for Bowie and his time in Baltimore. He will likely pitch somewhere in the 140- to 150-inning range this season.

Redmond went 2-0 with a 5.63 ERA. Over eight innings, he allowed eight hits and five runs.

These two moves leave the current camp roster at 49 players.

The Orioles play the Blue Jays here today at 1:05 p.m with Jake Arrieta getting the start.
