Orioles bring Machín to Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA – Vimael Machín has joined the Orioles on the medical taxi squad with Tyler O’Neill’s status uncertain.
O’Neill exited last night’s game in the sixth inning with right wrist soreness. X-rays were negative.
Machín can stay with the Orioles for 24 hours without having his contract selected. He hasn’t played in the majors since 2022 with the Athletics.
Machín was removed from last night’s game at Triple-A Norfolk after one at-bat. He’s hitting .294 with an .835 OPS, 22 doubles, two triples, 15 home runs and 69 RBIs in 97 games with the Tides.
Neither team has posted its lineup for today’s series finales. The Orioles are 1-4 since the trade deadline and have lost five of six games overall.
Left-hander Trevor Rogers is bringing a 1.44 ERA and 0.746 WHIP over nine starts into today’s game. He held the Cubs to one run in eight innings on Friday and tossed seven scoreless with one hit allowed against the Rockies in his previous outing.
Rogers has nearly cut his walks per nine innings in half from last season (4.05) to this season (2.08).
Rogers is 1-6 with a 6.71 ERA and 1.682 WHIP in 11 career starts against the Phillies. He’s posted a 4.03 ERA and 1.345 WHIP in five starts at Citizens Bank Park.
Colton Cowser has struck out 13 times in his last six games and 19 in his last 11. Cowser is batting .421 and slugging .684 against fastballs since the All-Star break, but he’s hitless against breaking balls and hitting .143 with no extra base hits against off-speed pitches, per STATS.
Dylan Carlson is in an 0-for-24 slump.
Phillies left-hander Ranger Suárez has registered a 2.68 ERA and 1.132 in 16 starts. He’s surrendered only seven home runs in 100 2/3 innings.
Suárez had a stretch of 10 consecutive quality starts after his debut outing on May 4, which was delayed due to lower back soreness. Most recently, he faced the Tigers and allowed three runs in seven innings.
Left-handers are batting .203/.261/.250 this season, and right-handers are batting .236/.292/.332.
Adley Rutschman is 2-for-5 with a double and home run against Suárez, who’s made three career starts against the Orioles and posted a 3.38 ERA in 18 2/3 innings.
