The Frederick Keys have returned as an Orioles affiliate, competing in the High-A South Atlantic League, and they introduced Collin Woody earlier today as their manager.
Woody guided Class A Delmarva last summer. The Keys have replaced the Aberdeen IronBirds as the Orioles’ High-A team, and Woody becomes the first affiliated manager in Frederick since 2019.
Woody played in 79 games for the Keys in 2018. He spent the past two summers managing the Shorebirds, accumulating more than 100 wins during his time in Salisbury. Also, his pitching staff finished with 1,299 strikeouts, leading the Carolina League with 11.1 per game during the second half.
Ties to the Orioles go back to 2016, when he was a 38th-round draft pick out of UNC Greensboro. He was fundamentals coach in the Florida Complex League in 2022 and 2023.
“I’m excited to be part of the crew that welcomes the Orioles back to Frederick,” Woody said in a statement. “When I was a player in the system, it was always everyone’s favorite affiliate that they talked about. I’m excited to continue to watch the players grow and develop and I think everyone is just as excited as I am and I’m just the lucky one that gets to be there.”
Hitting coach Jake Ratz moves up from FCL. He had the same role in the Dominican Summer League (DSL) in 2023 and 2024.
Jordie Henry will serve as pitching coach after having the same role with Double-A Chesapeake in 2025 and Aberdeen in 2024.
Tim Federowicz returns as Triple-A Norfolk manager, Roberto Mercado as Chesapeake manager, Christian Frias as manager with the FCL Orioles, and Chris Madera and Elbis Morel as managers in the DSL.
Adonis Smith has been named Delmarva manager after joining the organization last season as Aberdeen’s development coach.
Fundamentals coach Felipe Rojas and development coach Billy Facteau return to Norfolk. Hampton Roads native and Old Dominion alumnus Jeff Ware is the new pitching coach, and Rick Strickland is the new hitting coach. Justin Ramsey was pitching coach for the past four seasons. Mike Montville was hitting coach for the past two and has been promoted to upper-level hitting coordinator.
Ware was the Blue Jays’ bullpen coach from 2023-24. Strickland was the hitting coach for Double-A Tennessee in 2022-23 and Triple-A Iowa in 2024 –25.
Pitching coach Jeremy Hileman moves up from Aberdeen to Chesapeake. He was a pitching coach in the Arizona Fall League.
Collin McBride is Delmarva’s hitting coach after spending three seasons in the Twins organization and one with the Rangers. Bailey Vuylsteke enters his first season as the Shorebirds' pitching coach after two seasons in the DSL and spending 2025 in the FCL.
Former Orioles minor leaguers Elio Prado (hitting coach) and Noelberth Romero (coach) have joined the staff in the Dominican.
The Orioles promoted Forrest Herrmann to director of pitching. Thomas Eshelman, who pitched for the Orioles from 2019-21, is upper level pitching coordinator.
Also reported earlier was the hiring of Mike Shildt as upper-level coordinator of instruction. Samuel Vega, who won the Cal Ripken, Sr. Player Development Award in 2024, was moved to lower Level Coordinator of Instruction.
