In another attempt to improve their outfield depth, the Orioles claimed Michael Siani on waivers today from the Dodgers and designated reliever Jose Espada for assignment.

The 40-man roster remains full.

Siani, 26, is a left-handed hitter drafted by the Reds in the fourth round in 2018 out of William Penn Charter School in Philadelphia. He’s a career .221/.277/.270 hitter in 160 games over parts of four seasons, the past three with the Cardinals.

Siani, who plays all three outfield positions, hasn’t returned to the majors this season. The Braves selected him on waivers Nov. 6, the Dodgers selected him a month later, the Yankees did the same in January and the Dodgers got him back in February. He was hitting .225/.355/.303 in 29 games with Triple-A Oklahoma City.

The Orioles have added two outfielders since Saturday, including veteran Tommy Pham, who agreed to a minor league deal on Saturday.

Espada has appeared in one game with the Orioles in 2025 and one this season and tossed a combined four scoreless innings.

Jackson Holliday is with the Orioles but he hasn’t been reinstated from the injured list.

Jeremiah Jackson is playing second base and Weston Wilson is at third. Coby Mayo is playing first base, with Pete Alonso serving as designated hitter.

Blaze Alexander gets the start in center field after his absence from the lineup in all three games in D.C.

Samuel Basallo is on the bench. He’s slashing .389/.421/.639 (14-for-36) with four doubles, one triple, one home run, seven RBIs and eight runs scored during a career-best 10-game hitting streak.

In 21 games since April 20, Basallo is 28-for-73 (.384) with seven doubles, one triple, three homers, 13 RBIs and 12 runs.

Basallo is 7-for-14 off left-handers since April 24 after beginning the season 1-for-12.

In the last four games, the Orioles are batting .319/.365/.426 (15-for-47) against left-handers. In the previous eight, they were slashing .160/.259/.320 (12-for-75).

Despite losing twice at Nationals Park, the Orioles had 32 batted balls clocked at 100 mph or higher, the most in the majors from Friday-Sunday. Washington was next with 27.

Gunnar Henderson led the Orioles with seven, followed by Jackson (six), Alonso (four) and Mayo (four).

Mayo homered yesterday on the ninth pitch of his at-bat, the most by an Oriole since Anthony Santander on June 21, 2004, per STATS.

Trevor Rogers is making his eighth start tonight. The home run surrendered to Trent Grisham in his last outing broke his streak of 132 consecutive left-handed batters faced to begin his Orioles career without anyone taking him deep. That’s the most since Pat Rapp had 133 in a row in 2000, according to STATS.
