The Orioles will attempt tonight to move a season-high 27 games above .500 and perhaps expand on their two-game lead over the second-place Rays.
Ryan O’Hearn is in right field again tonight and batting cleanup. Colton Cowser is in left field. Austin Hays is on the bench.
Gunnar Henderson is the shortstop again. Jordan Westburg is playing second base.
Ryan Mountcastle is 14-for-28 in his last seven games. He’s batting fifth and playing first base.
Kyle Gibson has posted three quality starts in a row to raise his season total to 12. He’s made eight career starts against the Mets and registered a 3.98 ERA and 1.721 WHIP in 40 2/3 innings.
Francisco Lindor is 18-for-51 (.353) against Gibson, and Daniel Vogelbach is 6-for-11 with two doubles and a home run.
Pete Alonso is 0-for-14 with three walks and five strikeouts.
Gibson is getting a first-pitch strike 74.1 percent of the time against right-handed hitters since the break, compared to 67.4 percent against lefties, per STATS.
The Orioles improved last night to 68-18 when taking a lead, the best record in the majors.
They have seven different players with four-hit games, tied for most in the majors when the series began, according to STATS.
The Orioles are batting .281 with runners in scoring position this season, third highest in the majors. The Mets rank 22nd with a .246 average.
Tylor Megill, a 6-foot-7 right-hander drafted in the eighth round in 2018 out of the University of Arizona, is 6-4 with a 5.17 ERA and 1.668 in 15 starts. He’s averaging 10.1 hits and 4.9 walks per nine innings. He lasted only 2 1/3 innings in his most recent outing, on June 21 versus the Astros, allowing four earned runs (five total), and was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse.
Adam Frazier is the only Oriole who’s faced Megill, going 2-for-3 with a double. He isn’t in the lineup.
