The multitude of Orioles roster moves this month now include left-hander Cade Povich.

A source confirmed today that Povich is joining the team in Baltimore for the weekend series against the Brewers that begins the final homestand.

The Orioles had to do something after Kyle Bradish went on the 15-day injured list Sunday with lower abdominal discomfort. Manager Craig Albernaz told the media in New York that Bradish has a sports hernia. The right-hander’s season is done.

Povich always seemed like the No. 1 choice to replace Bradish. Otherwise, Trey Gibson could have been a consideration. Povich was supposed to start for Triple-A Norfolk this afternoon but was scratched.

So was the mystery over Bradish’s replacement.

The only uncertainty came from today’s off-day and where to slot him. The Orioles haven’t announced their starters against Milwaukee.

Povich has made seven appearances with the Orioles, including six starts, and posted a 4.05 ERA and 1.440 WHIP in 33 1/3 innings. He held the Rockies to one run in five innings on Aug. 31 in Colorado. The Orioles optioned him the following day.

On Aug. 4, Povich shut out the Angels on seven hits over six innings at Camden Yards. He started again in Texas and allowed three runs in three innings.

The season is marked by ups and downs for Povich. He allowed one run in 6 2/3 innings against the Giants in his first start on April 12, returned for a May 1 start at Yankee Stadium and surrendered five runs and seven hits in four frames.

The Orioles put him on the 15-day injured list a week later with left elbow inflammation.

Povich has a 6.28 ERA in 13 Triple-A starts.

A 14-man pitching staff includes 10 relievers, and the Orioles will need to remove someone to fit Povich on the roster. They recalled Codi Heuer on Monday but he hasn’t appeared in a game.

The Baltimore Sun first confirmed the Orioles’ plans to recall Povich.

*Outfielder Enrique Bradfield Jr. isn’t in Norfolk’s lineup due today due to right adductor tightness. His status is day-to-day.

Bradfield, the 17th-overall pick in the 2023 draft, is batting .265/.350/.353 in 85 games with Norfolk. He’s stolen 33 bases in 38 attempts.

Bradfield his slashing .280/.357/.400 in 12 games this month, but his major league debut appears on hold until perhaps 2027.
