The Orioles swapped out pitchers again today, recalling Denyi Reyes from Triple-A Norfolk and optioning left-hander Zac Lowther.
Lowther threw 100 pitches last night in 5 1/3 innings. Reyes was the 27th man for Saturday’s doubleheader in Boston, allowing one run in 3 2/3 innings in Game 2, and remained eligible to be recalled in fewer than 10 days.
Lowther was the first Orioles reliever last night to throw at least 100 pitches since Gabriel Ynoa on May 5, 2017.
Adley Rutschman is on the bench tonight as the Orioles continue their series against the Mariners. He’s 7-for-39 in 10 games.
Trey Mancini is playing first base and Anthony Santander is the right fielder and cleanup hitter.
Kyle Bradish is 1-3 with a 7.31 ERA and 1.518 WHIP in six major league starts. The last three have been rough since he struck out 11 batters in St. Louis, with Bradish allowing 15 runs and 19 hits in 11 1/3 innings. He lasted only 1 2/3 in Boston and surrendered six runs and six hits.
Austin Hays extended his hitting streak to 11 games last night. He’s slashing .326/.383/.488 (14-for-43) with a double, two home runs, nine RBIs, three walks and nine runs scored during that stretch.
Jorge Mateo is 7-for-20 with two doubles, a triple and a home run in his last five games.
The Orioles have won or lost their last three games by 10 runs.
Left-hander Robbie Ray is 4-5 with a 4.75 ERA and 1.203 WHIP in 10 starts in his first season with the Mariners. He’s struck out 68 batters in 60 2/3 innings.
Ray won the American League Cy Young Award last year with the Blue Jays, which is one way that the Orioles remember him.
Hays is 5-for-8 with a triple against him. Mancini is 2-for-14 with a double and home run.
