SARASOTA, Fla. – The Orioles have signed left-hander Clayton Tanner to a minor league deal after scouting him with Australia in the World Baseball Classic.
Tanner, 25, is a former third-round pick of the San Francisco Giants in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft. He was 0-2 with an 8.40 ERA and 50 hits allowed in 30 innings over 12 games, including four starts, with Triple-A Fresno last year, and 1-3 with a 4.08 ERA in 30 relief appearances with Double-A Pensacola.

In seven minor league seasons, Tanner is 52-48 with a 3.85 ERA.
My assumption is that Tanner will report to Twin Lakes Park. I’ve only gotten confirmation on the signing. No other details.
Also, the Orioles trail the Tampa Bay Rays 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth after the visitors were awarded the go-ahead run on a pitch that catcher Luis Exposito blocked in the dirt. Exposito apparently used his mask to scoop up the ball, which is against the rules. Wil Myers, who led off with a double, was awarded home plate.
Dylan Bundy gave up two hits, walked a batter, threw a wild pitch and recorded a strikeout in the ninth.
Update: The Orioles put two runners on base in the bottom of the ninth, but LJ Hoes struck out to end the game.
Rays 4, Orioles 3
