Jason Hammel, Steve Johnson, Mike Wright, Jair Jurrjens, Eduardo Rodriguez, Troy Patton and Daniel Schlereth will throw on Tuesday. Wright and Rodriguez were reassigned to minor league camp on Thursday.
A reminder that Chris Tillman, Miguel Gonzalez, Jim Johnson, Darren O’Day and Mark Hendrickson will pitch Sunday against the Pittsburgh Pirates in Sarasota. Zach Britton, Jake Arrieta, Luis Ayala and Adam Russell will pitch Monday against the Pirates in Bradenton.
Today’s travel roster includes minor league pitchers Chris Petrini, Zech Zinicola and Rob Delaney; catchers Jose Gil and Zane Chavez; and infielders Adrian Marin, Buck Britton and Nick Delmonico.
Showalter told reporters that Manny Machado would most likely start at third base tonight, allowing him to face Boston Red Sox left-hander Felix Doubront. However, Machado didn’t make the trip.
Machado was in the clubhouse this afternoon. Showalter must be giving him another day off. We’ll check later.
