Peterson apparently is the choice of new Red Sox manager John Farrell, who was tutored by Peterson at Double-A Waterbury in 1986 and Triple-A Buffalo in 1987. An announcement is expected to come Tuesday.

Peterson has declined to comment on his interview with the Red Sox, which took place on Saturday, and Orioles executive vice president Dan Duquette won’t comment as long as Peterson remains in the organization.

His tenure may be coming to an end after one season.

Peterson reportedly is among four candidates who have interviewed for the Red Sox job. He previously served as pitching coach with the Athletics, Mets and Brewers.

Still no word on how the Orioles would replace Peterson or whether they would alter or eliminate the position.

Also, The Boston Globe is reporting that Chris Correnti could return to the Red Sox as rehab coordinator.

The Orioles hired Correnti in February as a performance consultant who provides fitness and conditioning advisory services to the organization. He’s been responsible for overseeing the individual rehabilitation of injured players, including Zach Britton.

Note: The Houston Astros hired former Orioles pitcher Dennis Martinez as their bullpen coach.

Martinez had served as a pitching coach in the St. Louis Cardinals’ system for the last six years. He pitched for the Orioles from 1976-1986.

Former Orioles manager Dave Trembley will coach third base for the Astros, who earlier today hired Eduardo Perez as their bench coach.

The Astros move to the American League West next season and will visit Camden Yards July 30-Aug. 1.
